To prepare for the Canvas migration, we suggest you take the following steps in Blackboard.

  • We are migrating one year's worth of courses from Blackboard to Canvas: Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring 2020.
  • Migrating Winter 2020 and Spring 2020 Blackboard courses to Canvas: On June 22, 2020, you will see your Winter 2020 and Spring 2020 courses in Canvas. At that time, you will be able to edit, update, and copy those courses.
  • If you would like to import a course from Blackboard into Canvas that you are currently not teaching please send an email to facultycenter@curry.edu so we can create a shell for you. Please provide a course name with the naming convention: Course number|Name of course|Term|Year.

Below are action items for you to take as we prepare for the migration:
  • Exporting Blackboard Course to Desktop - For easy access to any of your courses, please export them to your Desktop. We strongly recommend that you export your course(s) by no later than July 27, 2020.
  • Downloading a Grade Center from Blackboard - When we migrate to Canvas, no student data will convert. Therefore, we recommend you download your Grade Centers for at least the past year, particularly if you have assigned "Incompletes." Having this information may also be beneficial when writing letters of recommendation or future grade disputes. We strongly recommend that you download Grade Centers no later than July 27, 2020.
  • Downloading Recordings from Blackboard Collaborate Ultra - After you have exported a course from Blackboard, you will have a .zip file saved. These instructions show you how to import that .zip file into Canvas which will bring over all the content from the original course. We strongly recommend that you download videos no later than June 8, 2020.
  • Importing Blackboard Course to CanvasAfter you have exported a course from Blackboard, you will have a .zip file saved.  These instructions show you how to import that .zip file into Canvas which will bring over all the content from the original course.
  • Blogs, Wikis, Journals are not part of Canvas - will need to use alternatives (Discussions, Shared Documents, Assignments)
  • Rubrics do not transfer over - will need to be re-created.
