Introductory Presentations:

The following presentations were developed for the "Blended Course Design" workshop delivered via the Faculty Center in January and February, 2014.

What is Instructional Design?

Brief introduction to instructional Design.

The Flipped Classroom

Related to the idea of blended learning, the flipped classroom provides lectures prior to class so class time can be spent in more active ways.

The Community of Inquiry Framework

Online and blended courses can use this framework to help inform the instructional strategies you choose.

Interactive Tools in Blackboard Learn

Not sure when to choose a blog over a discussion? How about a wiki? This presentation provides a nice, high-level overview of the interactive tools in Blackboard Learn so that you have the info you need to align tools and activities with your learning objectives.

Blended Course Design Planning Templates

The use of these templates was explained more in the Blended Course Design workshop. Below are links to blank templates as well as filled-in examples so you can see how they can be used.

Open Education Resources

Selecting and creating course content is an important part of the instructional design process. The good news is that you don't need to re-invent the wheel ALL the time. Below are links to places to find high-quality content in any subject area:

Image Resources

One of the planning templates above is devoted to helping you plan out presentations that include more graphics and less bullet points. Think about your presentation slide-by-slide. What is the title of the slide? What is the main idea? Finally, describe a graphic that helps you communicate that main idea to your audience. After you have a graphic in mind, you can use the resources below to find that perfect image.
